Magazine/Ring Road Development
As part of the ongoing improvements to De Montfort University's campus and surrounding area, the existing carriageway around and on the approach to the Magazine Building has been realigned.
The scheme completed in July 2008 realigns both the clockwise and anticlockwise directions of the inner ring road (A594), to the Eastern side of the Magazine, freeing up this historic building from its isolated location and reinstating its position as it was originally intended.
The improvements involved the diversion of existing services, demolition and filling of the pedestrian subways, new traffic light systems, new surface level crossings and repaving of pedestrian areas.They provide the setting for two new public open squares which were created during the construction of the Business and Law building.
